The Salles Family’s First Extra Añejo
El Tequileño was founded in 1959 by Don Jorge Salles Cuervo and remains the only brand produced at the La Guarreña distillery, now overseen by third-generation master distiller Jorge Antonio “Tony” Salles. For the brand’s first extra añejo, Tony and his father Juan Antonio hand-selected unique barrels for robustness, depth, and velvety finish — including barrels 218 and 219, American oak first-fill Jack Daniel’s bourbon barrels filled in October 2019. The blend went into a crystal decanter shaped like an agave penca, in a custom box with an earthy embroidery pattern, each bottle numbered with its certificate.
Tasting Notes
Rich deep amber with golden hues. French butter, sweet vanilla, and crème brûlée with toasty nuance on the nose; the palate brings savory cooked agave, toasted oak, burnt orange, toffee, vanilla, and walnut with slight earthiness. Creamy, lush finish that lingers.
How to Enjoy
Neat, in a tequila tasting glass, at room temperature — a 1,000-bottle decanter release is for savoring, not mixing. Save the presentation box; this is a gift-grade bottle.
